    Course Profile

    Fuelled by curiosity and wonder, children are extremely fast learners, and take in all of their surroundings to grow and develop vital skills to prepare them for school and their future. As an Early Years Practitioner, you’ll play a vital role in supporting the social and physical development of children ages 0-5, using imaginative learning techniques, encouraging language and literacy skills, and promoting independence along with the way. If you’re interested in this fulfilling and challenging career, this course is a great starting point.

    Once you’ve gained your certificate, you’ll be a qualified Early Years Practitioner with NCFE CACHE. This means you can start working, under supervision, with children up to the age of 5, and you’ll have proven knowledge of working with children up to the age of 7. You’ll also count towards the Level 2 ratio as a qualified Level 2 Early Years Practitioner across the Early Years Workforce.

    Course Content

    This Level 2 programme is suitable for learners with some prior knowledge or qualifications in the Childcare sector. Units covered include: 

    • Exploring roles and development opportunities in early years settings,
    • Child development from birth to 7 years, 
    • Safeguarding babies and young children in early years settings,
    • Supporting health and safety in early years settings, 
    • Promoting wellbeing in early years settings, 
    • Supporting effective communication in early years settings,
    • Supporting activities, 
    • Purposeful play and educational programmes, 
    • Understand how to support children with special educational needs
    • Working with parents, colleagues and other professionals in early years settings. 

    Progression

    This qualification allows a learner to count towards the Level 2 ratio as a qualified Level 2 Early Years Practitioner within the Early Years Workforce.

    Learners may work under supervision in a variety of roles such as:

    • early years practitioner
    • classroom assistant
    • pre-school practitioner.
    • Learners are also able to progress onto Level 3 Early Years Educator

    Early Years Educator - Level 3

    Course Profile

    If you’re looking to gain full practitioner status as an early years’ educator, also known as EYE, then this is the course for you.

    After completion, you will be fully qualified and ready to begin work as a Nursery Nurse, Reception Practitioner, Private Nanny, or one of many other positions which involve working closely with young children. You’ll combine studying online with a practical placement of at least 350 hours, as you develop your skills and help children to learn, grow, and thrive

    During the course of this Ofsted approved qualification, you’ll learn how to meet all of the physical, social and emotional needs of children ages 0-7.  You’ll explore how to support a healthy lifestyle through nutrition and exercise, how to promote children’s speech and language skills, as well as gain other vital knowledge regarding safeguarding and health and safety legislation.

    Course Content

    This qualification has all 23 mandatory units structured around three themes:

    Theme 1: Health and well-being

    You’ll look at supporting children’s development through healthy eating and exercise. You’ll study local and national initiatives aimed at keeping children fit and healthy, the importance of sleep for babies and young children, SIDS prevention, and common childhood illnesses. You’ll also explore the ways in which you can support children’s emotional wellbeing, and what you need to know about taking care of children who are unwell.

    Theme 2: Legislation, frameworks and professional practice

    You’ll understand legislation as it relates to the safeguarding, protection and welfare of children.  You’ll study how to use legislation relating to the health and safety of children and to follow legislation relating to equality, diversity and inclusive practice. The importance of working in partnership as well as how essential it is to engage in professional development

    • Theme 3: Play, development and learning for school readiness

    You’ll learn about the importance of supporting children’s development through play. You’ll find out how to support emergent literacy and mathematical skills, ways in which you can support a child in their transition to school, and strategies for supporting cognitive skills. You’ll discover the ways in which you can support children with additional needs, and how you can use observation, assessment, and planning to promote and support child development. Finally, you’ll learn how to use longitudinal studies observe, assess, and plan for children’s needs.


    Progression

    Upon achievement of this qualification learners will gain their licence to practise and it is intended that learners will be able to enter the workforce as Early Years Educators. Learners can progress into various job roles in the statutory, voluntary or private sectors such as:

    • Assistant in Children’s Centres
    • Practitioner in nursery schools
    • Practitioner in reception classes in primary schools
    • Pre-school worker

    Further education:

    Higher education

    Progression to higher level studies

    Important Information

    Entry Requirements

    While there are specific requirements for each course in general the basic requirements for a programme is:

    • Currently, live in England    
    • Resident in the UK with a visa for the duration of the course   
    • Must be aged 18+

    Delivery Model And Duration

    All programmes will be delivered using one of the following methods:

    • Face to face in a classroom
    • Online using MS Teams
    • Blended – a combination of face to face and online

    The duration of programmes will also vary based on their level and type.  Typical durations are:

    • Certificates up to 6 months

    Our programmes are designed to support learners to the next step.  As a result, we are working hard with you to get you to either:

    • A higher level programme
