Hire An Apprentice

An apprenticeship is a real job with a major training component. This allows newly recruited apprentices to earn while they learn, as well as gaining nationally recognised qualification(s) as well as their Apprenticeship certificate.  An apprenticeship programme allows for tailored training through a combination of practical work, online learning, taught classroom lessons, mentoring and work shadowing.

The Apprenticeship schemes help employers ensure that their staff are getting the exact knowledge, skills and behaviours they need while growing their talented and engaged workforce. Employers taking part value their apprentices because they help them fill the skills gap, workforce development and succession planning.

We deliver apprenticeships across a wide range of employment sectors and levels. We will also work with you to undertake a training needs analysis of your organisation and develop additional bespoke training programmes to meet your needs and that of your workforce.

Funding Explained

Firstly, you will need to know if you are a levy or non-levy paying employer.  This will decide how your apprenticeship programme will be paid for.  The apprenticeship levy is paid by employers with an annual wage bill in excess of £3 million. The levy is payable at 0.5% of the total wage bill over £3 Million. Find out more here.

Each apprenticeship course has its own funding value. If you are a levy-paying employer, you will pay for the entire apprenticeship(s) for your staff up to the value of your levy.  If your apprenticeship needs are greater than your levy, then the government will fund the rest on a contribution basis the same as is done for non-levy employers (see below).

If you are a non-levy employer, the government will be paying for your apprenticeships, and you will be expected to make a contribution to the cost.  The funding contribution you will need to make towards the training programme will depend on the size of your organisation and the age of your apprentice. The maximum you will need to contribute is 5% of the funding value, the government will fund the remaining 95%:

Off the Job Training

Apprentices are required to spend 20% of their working week on off-the-job training. Off-the-job- training is any training that takes the apprentice away from their job to learn their job.  This doesn’t include the training for English and maths but could include the following:

  • The teaching of theory (for example: lectures, role-playing, simulation exercises, online learning or manufacturer training),
  • Practical training: shadowing, mentoring, industry visits and attendance at competitions,
  • Learning support and time spent writing assessments / assignments.

Our online system keeps both you and your apprentice fully updated on learning progress. Your assigned assessor will be available to answer questions and provide you with support every step of the way.
